Five North City residents escaped serious injury last night in three reported shootings between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. In the earliest incident, a 28-year-old black man and 27-year-old black woman were sitting in the 2000 block of East Alice Avenue in the College Hill neighborhood when they heard gunfire. The man was shot in the right calf and the woman suffered a grazing shot to the bottom. Neither of them could provide descriptions of the suspects.
At 9:30 p.m. in the Walnut Park West neighborhood, a 42-year-old black woman and a 19-year-old black man emerged unscathed from an apparent drive-by shooting in Walnut Park West. The pair told police that they were in their car in the 6100 block of Laura Avenue when a small light blue SUV pulled up across the street. The right rear passenger of the SUV drew a handgun and squeezed off several shots, hitting their car multiple times but not injuring either occupant. The shooters, a trio of black males, then drove off.
In the final reported incident, an 18-year-old black man told police he was walking in the 5000 block of Emerson Avenue in the Walnut Park East neighborhood at 2:20 a.m. when white four-door sedan drove slowly by him. The left rear passenger fired one shot, hitting the young man in the upper leg. The only description of his assailants that he could provide police was that they were black men. The victim is now in stable condition at an area hospital.
The police continue to investigate all three incidents.
