Officials with the Madison County Sheriff's Office say Zachery Huntsman was drunk when he crashed his brand new Hyundai Elantra into a home in Moro, Illinois, yesterday. The 20-year-old from nearby Cottage Hills gave police a different excuse for the accident: He wasn't drunk; he was texting.
Sadly for Huntsman, police busted him for both offenses -- and then some.
According to reports, Huntsman was driving and texting around 1:19 a.m. Monday when his car, headed northbound on Moreland Road, plowed through the intersection at Moro Road (below) and crashed into a front porch.
Residents inside the home were startled but not injured. A 19-year-old passenger riding with Huntsman volunteered and failed a breathalyzer exam and was taken to a hospital for an injury to his wrist. Huntsman, meanwhile, failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.
On Tuesday he was charged with driving under the influence, unlawful consumption by a minor, reckless driving, and texting while driving.
Moral of the story? Be careful there at the intersection of Moro and Moreland. It's the end of the road -- literally.
