9 St. Louis Cats with Jobs Who Are Working Their Tails Off

If you think your job is hard, imagine what it would be like to do that job as a cat. It's not just that people would be constantly interrupting you with heavy petting in the middle of your Very Important Job — it's also that you'd have to put up with customers squealing as they remark on how you're so darn cute. What does a working cat have to do to get some respect?

Here are nine St. Louis area cats who have legit jobs where they're working their tails off — and deserve recognition for their hustle. Credit to the ShopCats app and its users for spotlighting these working kittehs and helping them get the acclaim they deserve.

Cat: Frankie
Title: Queen of Style
Place of Employment: STL Style House (3159 Cherokee Street)
Frankie (a girl) is around 15 or so years old — owners Jeff and Randy Vines found her wandering in an alley about a month after they opened their shop in 2010 and she was then an older kitten.

Says Randy, "She wears a lot of hats around here. We found out last year that she's blind now, so she relies on her instincts and street smarts to get by, and she is such a badass. She truly is the HuSTLe Kitty of HuSTLe City!" Like any good influencer, Queen of Style Frankie even has her own line of merch.

Cat: Dusty Miller
Title: Chief Florist
Place of Employment: Flowers & Weeds (3201 Cherokee Street)
In the words of the shop's owners, “This is Dusty Miller. She’s a very lazy, very sassy cat. She is mean to everyone, yet her fan base is huge!” ShopCats users say, "Floof!" and "So fluffy!!!!!"

Cat: Ginger
Title: Pest Control Manager, Box Inspector
Place of Employment: Garden Heights Nursery (1605 South Big Bend Boulevard, Richmond Heights)
ShopCat users say Ginger is a "good ole girl" who "spends most of her time outside during the summer catching mice (and sometimes birds) and lots of time in the winter cuddling on the heated floors of the greenhouse." She can be skittish, but loves "a good scritch from a fellow cat lover."

Place of Employment: Alpha Brewing Co. (4310 Fyler Avenue)
ShopCats users say Tassie is playful, cuddly, clever and not at all mischievious — after all, she has important work to do. Says one user, "Tassie enjoys warm days on the patio, especially when there's some food around. Sweet girl!" But rest assured, even with her friendly disposition, Tassie is still keeping an eagle eye on the perimeter.

Place of Employment: St. Louis Art Supply (4011 Papin Street, Suite A)
ShopCat users say Malcolm is "the friendliest cat in the world." He reportedly loves playing in the sink and "jumping on people from above," as a ninja does.

Title: Assistant Vice President in Charge of Sales, Chief Procurement Officer
Place of Employment: The Book House (7352 Manchester Road, Maplewood)
These cuddly co-workers stay busy helping customers pick out something to read — as well as keeping their seats warm, or even their purses, if they're into that sort of thing. And who wouldn't be, with such charming tiny panthers volunteering for the job?

Cat: Simon
Title: Vice President for Hospitality
Place of Employment: 2nd Shift Brewing (1601 Sublette Avenue, #2)
This handsome fellow earns high marks for being playful, cuddly and clever. Notes one ShopCats user, "Simon was friendly and greeted us when we came in!" Another observed him "doing his rounds" and getting pets before taking a nap at the bar. Face it, being the life of the party can be pretty exhausting.

Place of Employment: Johnnie Brock's Dungeon (1900 South Jefferson Avenue)
ShopCat users say this "perfect little man" is "very soft, very patient" — perhaps not a quality you associate with dungeon masters, but hey, Johnnie Brock's is a costume shop, not a torture chamber. Says one fan, "El gato responds well to 'pspspsps' and using your scarf as a toy." Noted!

Cat: Orleans
Title: Bookseller
Place of Employment: Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue)
Orleans moved into Left Bank in July of 2022, just one week before the store flooded. Owner Kris Kleindienst notes that he wasn't happy about the rising waters! But he's since settled into his new home and enjoys showing customers who's really in charge.

Notes one ShopCat user, "Offered my hand to smell and maybe pet, which baby boy respectfully declined. No consent to touch, no problem." Good human!
