Eating a peach in the winter is about as much fun as scraping ice off the windshield — the off-season fruit is hard and flavorless, not unlike that sleet. But to indulge in a peach during the summertime is to drink from the sun while swimming in a lake of honey! The folks at Pere Marquette Lodge & Conference Center (off the Great River Road near Grafton, Illinois; 618-786-2331) know this sweet truth, so they've arranged to hold the second annual Peach Festival this weekend, which happens to be exactly when the fuzzy fruit will be most delectable and oh-so juicy. At this celebration expect to find all things peachy, from pies to jams, plus kids' activities and crafts! The fest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. No word yet if the Presidents of the United States of America's song "Peaches" will be played on repeat throughout the day.
