Boxing Day

It is almost as difficult to keep track of boxing titles as it is to remember the current name of the building that is now the Scottrade Center (1401 Clark Avenue) — they all just change over so frequently. You recall that hometown champ Cory Spinks lost the undisputed welterweight title to Zab Judah at the then-Savvis Center in '05. Judah has since lost all three titles he won that night, producing three new champions where once stood one. Now, this evening at the Scottrade, the junior middleweight champ Spinks faces Verno Phillips in a spectacle produced by vocabulary champ Don King. The other match is between St. Louis fighter Devon Alexander (Spinks' protégé and the undefeated super-lightweight champion) and Panamanian Miguel Callist. Basically, everyone on the card tonight is a title-holding champion and a badass, but at the end of the evening, only some of them will be. One thing is certain: Two of the fighters are from St. Louis. Tickets are $25 to $200 at 314-241-1888 or www.ticketmaster.com; fights start at 5 p.m. Visit www.scottradecenter.com for details.
