School may be out for summer, but Gallery 210 on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-5976 or gallery210.umsl.edu) is trying to keep your head — or, at least, your eyes — in the game. It's hosting Contemporary Chinese Painting from the Harbin Art School, an exhibit of works by four Chinese artists (that's a piece by Wang Long pictured) who paint in the guó huà (native) style. These pieces are created by employing calligraphy skills, giving the paintings an intricate lace-like appearance. And in between the inked spaces, an ethereal light seems to shine through, which adds to the serene, organic feel of these works. Contemporary Chinese Painting opens with a free public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and the show remains on view from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until Saturday, August 9.
