Madagascar is the world's fourth largest island and home to large numbers of plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. Try to wrap your mind around this magical locale if you can; but if you can't, the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org) is here to help with its Desert Show: Deserts of Southern Africa and Madagascar. This special exhibition spotlights the rarely seen (in the West) flora of the arid regions of South Africa and Madagascar, in all their astounding biodiversity. You'll also gain insight into the work being put into preserving these unique habitats. The Desert Show is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sunday, July 27. Tickets are $5 in addition to regular garden admission ($4 to $8).
