The Black Repertory Theatre knows a good thing when it produces it. Last season's production of Ron Himes' narrative musical revue Crossin' Over was a bona fide smash — and so the Black Rep brings it back for another run, starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square; 314-534-1834 or www.theblackrep.org) and continuing through Sunday, March 11 (Thursday through Sunday weekly). A musical exploration of the African diaspora, Crossin' Over covers the Middle Passage, the transition from slavery to freedom, and the success and sadness of the civil-rights era. The journey is as much spiritual as historical, but above all else it's musical, as 400 years of music carry the plot and raise the roof. Admission is $27.50 to $40, but on Valentine's Day you can get two-for-one tickets when you bring your sweetheart.
