Let them Drink Beer

St. Louisans have a knack for devising excuses to imbibe, and we're notoriously fond of day-drinking. The Royale is nothing if not a wonderful enabler, and the south city institution goes above and beyond with its annual Feast Day Festival. Gather in the biergarten for a celebration honoring the city's patron saint, one King Louis IX of France, and the Lou's community of so many great neighborhoods floating in a suspension of local craft beer. The Royale (3132 South Kingshighway Boulevard; 314-772-3600 or www.theroyale.com) partners up this year with Civil Life Brewing Company to provide many a beverage evocative of summertime (namely, Kolsch-inspired ales), as well as delicious samplings from fellow local breweries Schlafly, 4 Hands and Urban Chestnut. The only charge is for refreshments, and the festivities begin at noon -- a totally acceptable drinking hour, thank you very much.
