Sixteen days into September and River Styx bravely kicks off another year of its renowned reading series with a little bit of magick and a little bit of baseball -- which in St. Louis is sorta the same thing. Annie Finch brings the magick; a Def Jam Poetry Slam vet, she writes about Wiccan matters and the poetry of life from southern Maine. Joe Schuster is the baseballist; you may remember him from his much-praised baseball novel, The Might Have Been. Tonight at 7:30 p.m., he reads from his short fiction with Finch at the Tavern of Fine Arts (313 Belt Avenue; www.riverstyx.org). Admission is $3 to $5.
