Out of a Hat

It's not magic, but it might as well be: 48 teams of filmmakers create 48 films in 48 hours. Fast, huh? The films of the 48-Hour Film Project make it to the big screen at the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-995-6270 or www.48hourfilm.com/stlouis) almost as quickly, premiering at 7 and 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday (June 14 and 15). Each screening features twelve films from one of the four groups; these film shorts (four to seven minutes long) blossomed from a genre drawn out of a hat on Friday, June 9, and were completed in a mad scramble by Sunday, June 11. The project's rules allowed for cast and crew, equipment, and locations to be secured in advance, but the rest was a toss-up — characters, script, sound, etc. So what kinds of films will teams "All This to Impress a Girl?" and "Twentieth Century Faux" make? Attending the Wednesday, June 14, events is the only way to know. All of the screenings are $6, and the best of the St. Louis 48-Hour Film Project's shorts are showcased at the Tivoli on Thursday, June 22, at 8 p.m.
