The Benjamin-O

Let's face it — Ben Franklin doesn't get enough credit. Master of the pithy aphorism, paragon of statecraft, titan of the natural sciences: Franklin is the American we all wish we were and yet never elect as president. Call it the curse of the Benjamino. Still, who wants to be president? Better to be the Man than the man in charge. And Franklin was the Man, baby. Set your little ones on the path of righteousness by encouraging them to follow in Franklin's mighty footsteps with Flying High with Ben Franklin at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-361-7229 or www.mohistory.org) today from 1 to 3 p.m. This free program has kids building kites and then taking them outside to fly them, just like Franklin did in his famous lightning experiment (minus the key and stormy weather of course). Always wise, never prez — strive for it.
