The Grapes of Wrath

Director John Ford was a master of misdirection. His public persona was that of a hard-drinking, two-fisted, anti-intellectual. Ford was perceived as an inarticulate, right-wing curmudgeon, but his films presented a different worldview -- and perhaps none more effectively than Ford's adaption of John Steinbeck's socialist parable The Grapes of Wrath. Henry Fonda stars as Tom Joad, who leads his broken Oklahoma family across the United States in search of a better life after losing their farm during the Great Depression. The Webster Film Series presents The Grapes of Wrath as part of its A Century Through Cinema film program.
