The Runway March

With Memorial Day just around the corner, the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum (1315 Chestnut Street) appropriately hosts a military-themed fashion show from 4 to 7 p.m. Fashion Wars, presented by Fashion Fr8, features pieces by local designers that were inspired by the clean lines and neutral colors of tidy U.S. military uniforms, past and present. Perhaps the summer version of the Navy pea coat will make an appearance down the runway. Or maybe even an update on utilitarian cargo pants and combat boots. With those and additional military clothing items in mind, along with the patches, hats and other accoutrements favored by the various branches, designers ought to have had more than enough inspiration to create a varied and fabulous show. In addition to the stylish part of the event, Fashion Fr8's family-friendly fun also features an art exhibit, music and an opportunity to drop off care packages for our men and women serving overseas. Admission to Fashion Wars costs $8 to $10; buy tickets in advance at www.fashionfr8.eventbrite.com.
