The Transfiguration of Buck Angel

Buck Angel is a self-made man, in every sense of the word. Angel was born biologically female, a situation that became increasingly frustrating as he aged. Angel struggled with thoughts of suicide and addiction before eventually living openly as a hyper-masculine, well-muscled man -- "the man with the pussy," as he billed himself during his career in porn. Dan Hunt's documentary Mr. Angel gets up-close and personal with Buck Angel, the former female model, porn star, transgender activist, public speaker and everyday human being. Mr. Angel screens at 9:30 p.m. tonight at the Landmark Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-7271 or www.cinemastlouis.org/Qfest) as part of Qfest 2014, Cinema St. Louis' LGBT film festival. Tickets are $10 to $12.
