Xanadu It

If you're searching for a family-friendly, alcohol-free way to ring in the new year, look no further than First Night St. Louis, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary throughout the streets of Grand Center (North Grand and Lindell boulevards). This year's theme is inspired by the 1980 Olivia Newton-John film Xanadu -- you know, the one with Gene Kelly and all that roller disco action -- and also the Greek tradition of Xanadu being the home of the nine artistic muses. Grand Center will be a spectacle full of entertainment, music and art both on the streets and in the various buildings, from magic and comedy shows to a high-flying international trampoline performance by Flippen' Out, and two fireworks displays -- one at 9 p.m. and the second at midnight. There will be two food trucks on location if you get hungry, and the film Xanadu will be projected (no sound) on the side of the building at 634 North Grand Boulevard all night long. First Night St. Louis begins at 6 p.m. and admission is $5 to $10, but free for ages five and younger.
