We're in denial about it being back-to-school time because that means summer is almost over. Fortunately, the Cup (28 South Maryland Plaza; 314-367-6111) has cooked up (pun intended) something to make it a little sweeter (last one). Two brand-new cupcakes will be available until August 19 to benefit Push for Pencils, a KidSmart initiative.

The Cup often partners with charities and even has a special event one day each month where proceeds are donated to a local nonprofit. "That's one of our core missions as a company, to give back to the community," says the Cup's Elizabeth Arway.

Push for Pencils is the largest school-supply drive in St. Louis. According to KidSmart, 90,000 area children will begin school this fall without even basic supplies like paper, pencils, glue and crayons. There's also a program where teachers can volunteer and earn supplies for their students.

Arway says the Cup chose the two new cupcakes because they had a "back to school" feel: the "PB&J" cupcake is made with white cake, grape jelly filling and peanut-butter cream cheese frosting. and the "Peanut Butter Fluff" cupcake is white cake with marshmallow filling and peanut-butter cream cheese frosting with tiny marshmallows on top. "We've never done any [cupcakes] like this before," Arway says. You heard her -- get 'em while they're hot!
