St. Louis fell short in this year's vote for Food & Wine magazine's "People's Best New Chef" award, but now we have another chance. Food & Wine announced this morning the "People's Best New Pastry Chef" competition, pitting pastry chefs from across the country against one another, and Robert Zugmaier of Sidney Street Café (2000 Sidney Street; 314-771-5777) is one of the 50 finalists.

As with the "People's Best New Chef" competition, the magazine has split the finalists into multiple regions, in this case three: east, west and central. Zugmaier is one of seventeen finalists in the central region.

Whichever pastry chef receives the most vote in his or her region is that region's winner. The chef who receives the most votes overall across all three regions is the "People's Best New Pastry Chef."

Voting opened today and continues through next Monday, April 8. Click here to vote.
