16 in Webster Groves

The documentary 16 in Webster Groves was produced by the news division of CBS in 1966, halfway through one exceptionally tumultuous decade. The hourlong program, narrated by Charles Kuralt, captured teenagers of the suburb going about their daily routines and talking about their lives. The gist was that these teens were conformist, materialist products of suburbia, and many Webster Groves residents felt the film depicted their town harshly and unfairly. The Webster Film Series screens the film tonight as part of its A Century Through Cinema series. Forty-nine years on, watch it and arrive at your own take.
