All Sorts of Strings Attached

Pipa, lute and you

For its final concert of the season, the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society presents a pair of proficient plucking prodigies: China’s Gao Hong and India’s Shubhendra Rao. Gao is recognized as a world-class master of the pipa, China’s traditional pear-shaped lute, while Shubhendra Rao is an ace on India’s long, hollow-necked sitar. In both duo and solo performances, the two promise to take audiences way out — to an ethereal world populated by multi-cultural tones, dynamic textures and dazzling technique. The Gao-Rao Duo plays at 8 p.m. this evening at the Ethical Society of St. Louis (9001 Clayton Road, Ladue). Tickets are $22 to $24.
