Dance, redefined

Attending a ballet is like going to a tea party: You'll behold plenty of prettiness and daintiness, and the whole affair is guaranteed to be quite polite and very refined. A Pilobolus Dance Theatre show could be compared to a tea party — say, if the tea at the party were spiked. Sure, this company's dance performances are all very aerobic and stunning, like ballet concerts, but there's always a bit of a twist to everything you see. The dancers jump, bend and flip while transforming your preconceptions of dance and expanding your ideas of the range of human movement. To have your mind blown by Pilobolus, head over to the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org). The group performs as the guest of Dance St. Louis at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday (January 23 and 24), and tickets cost $29 to $50.
