Exploring the Elemental

The Saint Louis Art Museum is known for selecting fantastic videos for its installation series, and Laleh Khorramian's Water Panics in the Sea is no exception. Not only are the mixed-media images themselves beautiful, but they unite to form a massive, intricate and harmonious whole. Khorramian created short films for the elements earth, water, air, fire and ether. As time went on and each film stood alone, she realized that together they would evolve and began incorporating components that connect them within a larger story -- a story of a time-traveling ghost ship, set against carefully arranged minimalist sunset-at-sea scenes or in the midst of raging water-colored storms. The video is on view through October 21 at the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park. For more information, visit www.slam.org or call 314-721-0072.
