Not that long ago the few blocks of Manchester between Vandeventer and Kingshighway were pretty much one continuous, sad stretch of boarded-up windows and vacant storefronts. Today, those windows are intact portals into smartly rehabbed retail, restaurant and club spaces in a thriving neighborhood that's been christened The Grove. To celebrate its new and exciting lease on city life the place throws itself a free annual party called Grove Fest, and we're all invited. Grove Fest 2011 starts at noon and features a host of music, art, food, drinks and street performers -- plus a big fashion show, the Grove Fest Fashion Corner, from 6 to 9 p.m. This all-ages event showcases clothes from several St. Louis boutiques starting at 7 p.m., with an all-inclusive VIP cocktail party beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets for the VIP portion are $20 and include two hours of drinks, food, entertainment and prizes; those tickets can be purchased at www.grovefestfashioncorner.com.
