Spell It Out

Even with spell check built into nearly every kind of program there is, egregious errors still show up in e-mails, in advertisements and flyers, and just about everywhere else, too. Of course, mistakes are bound to happen — even the practically perfect Night & Day section has maybe, just maybe, let a couple of teensy-tiny boo-boos slip through — but people, please! Let that ol' checker help you out! Good spelling conveys intelligence and carefulness and all kinds of other good things, which is why the clever people among us will be out at Lindenwood University's J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts (2300 West Clay Street, St. Charles; 636-949-4433 or www.lindenwood.edu/center) for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Not only will the audience members get to watch six overachieving students compete in the bee and witness the dysfunction of the adults in charge during this musical production, but four lucky theatergoers will have the opportunity to sit onstage and participate as guest spellers! How cool is that? To catch the comedy and potentially show off your spelling skillz — er, that is skills — arrive at the theater by 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (November 11 through 14). Tickets cost $15.
