When did we first begin hating the New Jersey Devils? Some claim it happened in the past fifteen years, when the Devils patented their brand of suffocating and boring defensive play. Many claim it was back in the '80s, when the NHL brass jobbed the Blues out of Scott Stevens to the benefit of the Devils. A few old timers will pinpoint 1977 as the year, when the Devils were known as the Colorado Rockies, and the team became infamous as the first major sports team to use Gary Glitter's "Rock & Roll, Pt. 2" as pump-up-the-crowd music. Yes, hate them for this if nothing else. Tonight those dirty Devils skate into town for the last game of 2008, a game the St. Louis Blues should win for long-suffering sports fans everywhere.
