Utopia Bound

Ever since Adam and Eve sunk their teeth into the forbidden fruit, humans have striven to shape this world into a better place, some for personal gain, others for a more perfect union. In J.C. Hallman's new book, In Utopia: Six Kinds of Eden and the Search for a Better Paradise, the author investigates a half dozen contemporary stabs at creating a better world. Among these are the Front Sight Firearms Training Institute which envisions an idyllic society where all citizens take advantage of their right to bear arms; and The World, an endlessly sailing co-operative living cruise ship, owned by a super rich population that sees the world as its oyster. J.C. Hallman is not asking for Utopia, but hopes you'll make his world a better place by joining him at Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) tonight at 7 p.m. for a free discussion and book signing.
