Cinco de Mayo got started a little early on Cherokee Street this year, as the south St. Louis district celebrated the Mexican holiday on May 4, 2024.
The festivities were a riot of color, flavor and energy, with vibrant street food, impulsive dance parties and even a mechanical bull, as well as wrestling matches that had fans screaming and cheering. Even the sudden downpour that began around 4 p.m. couldn't dampen spirits, as people danced and sang in the rain until they were soaking wet.
Not only were the streets filled with color, but people dressed to impressed and lit up the street as well. People brought dogs and people brought kids — and everybody was ready to celebrate.
