Food & Wine Nods to Galliano, Craft, Fozzie's

The July edition of Food & Wine (on newsstands now) is the publication's annual "Best New Chefs" issue. No St. Louis chefs made this year's list of the country's twelve best new chefs, but Food & Wine does make multiple mentions of local chefs this month:

- We learned in March that Josh Galliano of the late Monarch (7401 Manchester Road, Maplewood), had won Food & Wine's "People's Best New Chef" poll for the midwest region. Galliano, the other regional "People's Best New Chef" selections and the overall leading vote-getter are featured on page 26 of the July issue.

(Look for Galliano's tiny, disembodied head on the right-hand side of the page.)

- A look at "What's New on Planet Pizza" includes a mention of Gerard Craft's soonish-to-open Pastaria by Niche (7734 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton). The blurb notes that diners will be able to buy the restaurant's pizza flour to use at home.

- Finally, an article titled "Why Sandwich Chefs Are Our New Heroes" includes Mark Lucas of Fozzie's Sandwich Emporium (1170 South Big Bend Boulevard, Richmond Heights; 314-932-5414) among twenty "Sandwich Chefs to Know." The blurb notes Lucas' "homegrown vegetables" used in recipes like its black-bean burger with roasted peppers, a picture of which is one of the illustrations for the article.
