Police were called to the residence at 12:48 a.m. when Blue attempted to enter the home, which belonged to his ex-girlfriend. Her new boyfriend, another 23-year-old from Belleville, shot Blue in the chest and he was pronounced dead at 1:07 a.m.

According to the Belleville News-Democrat, East St. Louis police are still investigating the homicide and it's unclear if prosecutors will press charges against the shooter, who has not been identified.

Another murder occurred the day before under nearly identical circumstances at a public housing project.
Jeremy Davis, 23, was shot and killed early Monday morning when he went to his ex-girlfriend's apartment at the John Robinson Homes on the 1200 Block of Market St.
